Профессиональная организация, объединяющая работников медицинских учреждений, исследовательских центров, сотрудников общественных организаций и представителей широкой общественности страны, заинтересованных в сохранении здорового общества. Основана в 1872, старейшая организация медиков-профессионалов в мире. Издает ежемесячник "Американ джорнал ов паблик хелс" [American Journal of Public Health] (с 1911) и газету "Нэйшнс хелс" [The Nation's Health]. Более 50 тыс. членов (2004). Штаб-квартира в г. Вашингтоне
